Using a high gain 2.4ghz lan antenna I was able to pick several cameras around the neighborhood. The Aircraft band works very well using a discone antenna it is as good or better then my other radios on the same antenna. Same thing for the Police and fire bands. I'm planning on putting up a LAN dish with a preamp with a rotor, should be interesting seeing what I can pick up. I have been very happy to find that I don't have ANY problems. I havent put a signal generator on it yet but it does every thing I need. I have been using TK3 software with a interface I made for my 706 and it works great. To get the interface to work I use a stereo plug to left/right mono plug Y and just try each plug until I find the side that works. I read were someone said that you cant use the radio/LCD screen while it is charging or connected to the charger. I can use my radio and LCD screen with no problems while connected to the charger. * * * It's an incredible product. Many critics, no facts. Aor, uniden, yaesu, alinco.. Nobody has got a product like that. You might think about this. Has an eXelent TFT monitor, a good audio, an intelligent antenne. * * * Have had this radio now for about two weeks and really havent been able to put it down! I've read the reviews and just about every one of them said this radio sux. But since I dont believe everything I read, I decided to get one and I'm glad I did. The BNC connector allows me to use any antenna I want. This thing does FM TV where as I have read that it doesnt. As for software to program it, do a search for "ic-r3 software" and I'm sure something will come up. It is a bit on the rocket scientist side to program without it. Get you a 2.4 ghz directional yagi like they use on wireless LANs and you can pick up X-10 cams from a few blocks away (you would be surprised how many people use those things!) * * * I have had my Icom R-3 for quite a while now and I'm always impressed with its wide array of functions! It can not only receive ordinary signals but also ATV (AM and FM) and video monitor signals as well (from home and business security cameras)! The controls take some getting used to as using the R-3 is not a "second nature" affair! I wish it was a bit bigger for a larger screen and more buttons. As it is now, the R-3's controls have multiple functions/menus. I was so impressed with the R-3 and what it can do, I bought another 8 months later! Oh yes, coverage goes down to approximately 150 kHz or so and it seems to perform quite well above 3 mHz or so. It's nice to have that bright screen showing you all of the relevant data on it! It sort of reminds me of my Icom 2800H! * * * I have wireless home security cameras and video senders which use the same four channels in the 2.4GHz band and the R3 would be useful domestically. * * * THIS IS VIDEOS OF THE RADIO YOU WILL GET! * * * * * * * * * Email us with any questions!
